Hawthorn leaves

We have several woods in the valley, the largest and most popular been Harridge West, which leads to Home Wood and Limekilm Wood.   Harridge East is visited less often, and Cockles Wood is a narrow hillcrest wood on the opposite side of the main road.

The woods of Nettlebridge valley are mostly of Ancient Oak/Ash Woodland but with a long history of management, and then replanting with conifers in the 1950’s.

Of special interest are the old large Coppiced stumps of mostly Ash, but also Alder and Oak, know locally as Stoggles.
