The local buildings have a distinctive style, which has been recognised in the Ashwick Parish Design Statement, which is now adopted as supplementary planning guidance by Mendip District Council.

The buildings of the Nettlebridge valley have evolved over the years, but generally the number of households and hence residents has significantly reduced over time.

This is largely due to smaller cottages been put together to make large properties, but also properties been demolished, or falling into ruins.
