History

The Nettlebridge valley has a rich history of farming and industry, from the earliest known occupation of Caves in Cockles Wood around 2500BC, through Roman times when the Fosse Way crossed the valley in Nettlebridge, to a latter industrial time with open-cast and deep shaft Coal mining.
